Today marks an important milestone for ECDC’s cooperation with countries under EU’s Enlargement policy. After 14 years of close collaboration, on 28 April 2025 ECDC formalised its cooperation through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with Albania, Kosovo*, Montenegro, and with the new EU candidate country, Moldova.

European Immunization Week (EIW), marked annually during the last week of April, is an initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about the benefits of immunisation as a vital part to prevent diseases and protect life.

The standard call for abstracts for ESCAIDE 2025 is now open and the deadline for submissions is 14 May (23:59 CEST).

On 7–8 April 2025, a technical team from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) visited Türkiye to assess the country’s communicable diseases surveillance system.

ECDC has published a set of recommendations for preparedness planning for public health threats, offering tailored guidance for improving readiness for future health emergencies across European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) countries, at both national and regional levels.

On 18 and 19 March 2025, a seminar was held at Africa CDC HQ in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Priority Areas for Multisectoral Interventions (PAMIs) for cholera control. The workshop brought together 20 participants from Africa CDC and the Regional Collaboration Centres.

Throughout 2023, ECDC and its partner countries collaborated to strengthen the regional workforce as part of the EU Initiative on Health Security. The goal was to enhance capacities for addressing communicable diseases in both EU enlargement countries and those participating in the EU Neighbourhood Policy (ENP).

With funding from the Africa CDC – ECDC Partnership, Imen Haddad recently participated in an ECDC workshop on infodemic management organised under the EU Initiative on Health Security.

From 5 to 7 March 2025, a technical team from ECDC visited Kosovo to discuss the country’s communicable disease surveillance system.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is preparing for an impactful year in 2025, delivering training sessions, capacity-building initiatives, and enhancing collaboration with European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) partner countries under the EU Initiative on Health Security.
