Die Pneumologie ist der Bereich der Inneren Medizin, der sich mit der Atmung und der Lunge beschäftigt. War vor wenigen Jahrzehnten „lungenkrank“ noch ein Synonym für Tuberkulose, so umfasst die Pneumologie heute doch ein sehr breites Spektrum von Erkrankungen der Lunge, Lungengefäße und Atemwege, angefangen vom allergischen Heuschnupfen über Lungenhochdruck, bis hin zu immunologischen Lungenerkrankungen oder bösartigen Erkrankungen der Lunge und des Rippenfells.
